Who we are
Our website address is: https://aribilow.com. This is a personal portfolio site belonging to Ari Bilow.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (via Site Kit by Google) to understand how visitors use this site — pages viewed, time on site, general location, and device/browser type. This data is aggregated and is not used to personally identify you. Google may use cookies to collect this information. You can learn more about how Google uses this data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We also use Site Kit’s Search Console integration to see which search terms bring visitors to the site, and PageSpeed Insights to monitor site performance. Neither collects personally identifiable information.
Contact forms
If you submit a contact form on this site, the information you provide (such as your name, email address, and message) is sent directly to us and is used only to respond to your inquiry. We do not sell or share this information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Email newsletter signup
If you choose to subscribe to updates via a newsletter signup form on this site, your email address is stored with Mailchimp, our email service provider, for the sole purpose of sending you updates you’ve opted in to receive. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email. Mailchimp’s own privacy policy is available at https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Google Analytics and Jetpack may also set cookies for the purposes described above, in the Analytics section of this policy.
Password-protected pages
Some pages on this site are password-protected and intended for a limited audience. If you have been given a password to view one of these pages, we do not use that access to collect any personal data beyond what is described elsewhere in this policy.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, or articles from other websites). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
We share data with the third-party services described above (Google Analytics, Mailchimp) solely for the purposes described in this policy. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, so that we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Contact form submissions are retained only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry. Newsletter signup data is retained by Mailchimp until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left a comment, submitted a contact form, or subscribed to our newsletter, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes, or data held directly by a third-party provider (such as Mailchimp) under its own retention policy.
To make a request, contact us at aribilow@gmail.com.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Analytics data is processed by Google. Newsletter signup data is processed by Mailchimp. Both may store data on servers located outside your country of residence.
